if you are the girl you have to say seperate checks to the waiter as soon as you can. otherwise it is generally assumed that the guy will pay.

well it really depends whether or not you believe in old fashion standards that a man should always pay for the bill. From my personal experience, i never went on a date where i would have to split the cost. I believe that a man should pay for the bill. however, if both of you are going out, it is ok to take turns paying for things

Well, if the guy is offering, or even insisting, just let him pay for everything. Let him feel like a guy. Once you've been dating someone for awhile, maybe then split the cost sometimes. But if he's willing to pay and wants to, let him and don't insist that you help out. Guys like to feel like a guy, and being able to provide for their girl is a big deal!

Personally, I believe the date cost is the obligation of the one that initiated the date request. If it is a costly event that goes beyond their limit, they should make that known before the date is accepted and decide between the two of you what will be shared and what will not be shared in expense. When I was dating my wife, it switched back and forth. Sometimes I took her out and sometimes she took my out. It is not a competition, but some really romantic or cool experiences are sometimes beyond the financial means of one, but are worth sharing to share the experience together.

It's not wrong, but there are really nice guys in the world who would pay for the whole date b/c they're gentlemen. Females think indepently, but when a guy actually pays for a date w/o being a jerk, grumbling about it, is a pretty nice feeling.

No I don't think it's wrong. Your date may be offended if you do this all the time though. He may get the notion that you think he doesn't have the money to treat you occasionally.
