Meekness makes sense to me, I've never seen anywhere in the Bible that it said meek makes weak. If someone is doing you wrong is it intellegent to strike back right away, or is it smarter to be gentile like a lamb and wait for the right moment?

It says, be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Mat 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. KJV

This verse is talking about doing the work of God. When you do His work you must be more cleaver than the devils. Do it with gentleness, be nice about it. God is going to bless you if you are on His payroll.

This does not say anything about being a weakling and letting others walk all over you. Someone strikes you, you defend yourself and if this is in the presence of the family, you protect that family of yours with equal force.

Go to the chapter and verse and read it for yourself.><>
