Longer term use of narcotic pain meds. Can this have any effect on weight?

Yes, both ways. Narcotics can cause you to crave food, especially sweets, so they can make you gain weight. However, in my case, narcotics have allowed me to be up and more active and able to exercise, and have therefore caused me to lose weight.

Pain medication is most effective when taken on a empty stomach. Now this applies mainly if you are taking pain killers in a non prescribed fashion. To get euphoric.

The blood pools in the stomach when you eat so taking narcotics while eating reduces this effect. And as I imagine you know, if you continue to take pain pills several times a day with out eat very much you will lose weight.

Not the best, safest ot cheapest way...but it is a way. Not for me.

The part of your question that troubles me is that you say you are 'pretty serious about weightlifting'. Then you take something that kills pain and you do your workout. While you aren't feeling ANY pain you are working your body like you don't even have any, maybe even harder because you don't feel anything, for that's what those pills do, they kill all the pain. But your body is still in pain and reacting to it. You may not be feeling any foot pain but the body is still working around it like it was still there, holding your body differently, changing your stance a little, just little things that you don't think makes a difference but can be the cause of your bigger pains as your body isn't used to the different stands you take and it can be shifting the weight bearing muscles into areas that are painful, but again, you aren't feeling them. It would be better for you to cool it some, do light workouts for short periods of time so you don't aggravate the rest of your body. Not feeling pain doesn't mean it's not there or that your body isn't reacting to it.
