Hodad's in Ocean Beach has fantastic hamburgers, and their shakes are to die for. Their burgers are humongous, messy, and juicy, sooooooo good. The french fries are also good. It's super casual there, so don't worry about dressing up. Really family friendly too. It's also nice 'cause it's right by the beach...just a short walk to see the waves after you finish eating...that is, if you can walk after those huge burgers. Yummy! Try it out...I don't think you'll be disappointed.

~*~ In-N-Out Burger...............absolutely fantastic!!!!
I'm from the midwest, & there are none here, darn it! But when my hubby & I went out to San Diego to see our son graduate from Marine bootcamp at MCRD in June of 2003, we made it a point to try them out. We had heard so much about them from returning troops when asked what would be the first thing they would do after returning home.....so many times the answer was, "Grab an In-N-Out Burger". After eating one I understoood why. As I said, we can't get them here, so here is a recipe for a fairly good clone of their burger, just in case you might want to try it at home:
IN-N-OUT DOUBLE-DOUBLE BURGER
For 1 serving:
1 lg. hamburger bun
1/3 lb. ground chuck (2 thin patties)
salt & pepper, to taste
1 T. Kraft Thousand Island dressing
1 lg. or 2 sm. tomato slices
1 lg. lettuce leaf
4 slices American cheese
1 onion slice
Preheat skillet over medium heat. Lightly toast both halves of the hamburger bun face down. Set aside. Separate the beef & form into 2 thin patties slightly larger than the bun. Lightly season each patty & cook for 2 to 3 minutes on the first side. Flip the patties over & place 2 slices of cheese on top of each one. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Build the burger in the following stacking order from the bottom up: bottom bun, dressing, tomato, lettuce, beef patty with cheese, onion slice, beef patty with cheese, top bun.

Rocky's in Pacific Beach. It's got a lengthy history. Bring cash. 3786 Ingraham.
Alternatively, There's Tioli's Crazy Burger on 30th and El Cajon. He's got a menu you wouldn't believe (including ostrich burgers)

Don't know, but The Strip Club in the Gaslamp district has the best steaks I've ever eaten (btw, it's NOT a strip club in the people getting naked sense).
