BREATHING! It is so important! All the way in (full lungs) then heartily back out slowly, ALL OF THE WAY! The breathing out is important so you don't hyperventilate. Your posture is important, too. Be sure to carry youself properly, don't slouch but be aligned. You'll be very surprised when you check these things often (like every time you think of it) you can feel the stress back off right away. Breath in, lift shoulders to ears, then gently back in that position (shoulder blades together), then relax gently down again. That is a true posture check. Sounds wierd but it is golden!

One way to cope with stress is experimenting with different calm music-- classical, new age, whatever feels best to you. You can also find some songs that fit your more agitated mood (something fast paced), and start listening to that. Then gradually change styles until you work your way into a peaceful, calm song (slow tempo). This way you can bring yourself down by working your way into it. You might think about creating a CD with a mix of music that starts with fast songs and eventually ends with very calm, slow songs. Then you have it on hand for whenever you may need it and won't have to search for a song selection.

As for a couple song choices:
A very interesting composer is Janalea Hoffman. She writes music to specific speeds to slow the heart rate. (The album Deep Daydreams is a good example) Look on her website at: http://www.rhythmicmedicine.com/music.ht...

George Jamison is another artist that I like as well as some things by Yanni.

Another option is just some classical piano music or harp music, etc.

Listen to some different stuff and see what works best for you!

Music is also effective if used in addition to other relaxation techniques. You may want to search for info on progressive muscle relaxation, autogenic relaxation, etc. Some basic explanations can be found all over the internet. These relaxation techniques will help you greatly in dealing with stress if you take some time each day to do them. It's better to deal with it proactively rather than waiting until lots of stress builds up!!

If you are asking for relaxation tips my guess is that you really don't know yourself enough to know what relaxes you. I can tell you what relaxes me.

I like doing some brainless activities after work like watching The Simpsons or playing a video game. Working out at the gym helps burn energy and that relaxes me. Sometimes playing with my kids relaxes me (other times it doesn't )

My wife relaxes by going to the gym or taking a bubble bath or going for a walk.

Good luck.

On a sunshiny day, go outside and breathe in some good air. Sunshine not only makes your skin produce vitamin D, but it causes your body to produce serotonin - it's a mood-leveler.
Learn a couple of breathing techniques.

Try this relaxation technique: put your hands on your chest, close your eyes, and focus on your heartbeat. Breathe in sync with your heartbeat. Slow breaths, concentrating on the beat of your heart ... you should start feeling your heartbeat throughout your body in waves.
This is best used when you're trying to go to sleep, because some people fall asleep doing this.

Hot shower, with scented oil, then sit on a chair or your bed, and do some breathing exercises to help you relax. I'm sorry you're feeling depressed, hope this helps.

Work out, walk in the woods, take a bath, listen to music, or have a stiff drink if youre old enough. The last one works for me.
