Punished my little 12 year old sister by giving her a cold shower!
She is planning on punishing her for the rest of the week with cold showers! What can be done?
BTW my father leaves the punishing of my sister to my mother!
When I tried to speak to him he said mother knew best for my sister!

You could do any, or all of these things:
(1) Make an anonymous call to your state's child abuse hotline. You don't say what state you're in... in NY the number is 800-342-3720. You could try your phone book, or google child abuse and your state. You will not have to give your name, and if your report is investigated, they will not say how they found out (realistically it could be any number of ways, perhaps your sister told a teacher or a friend).

(2) Tell a teacher or counselor in school tomorrow. Make sure you pick someone who will sit down and listen to you, and take you seriously. If the first one doesn't, just keep trying. Teachers are "mandated reporters" which means that if they think a child is being abused, they are required by law to report it.

Your state may, or may not, consider this abuse, you should know. But you can (and I think, should) always call them and check. Let THEM make the choice. I certainly think it's bad enough to qualify as abuse, and I'm a mom and a school psychologist.

Good luck.

12 is too young to have to endure cold showers! Perhaps your father should give your mother a cold shower and see how she likes it?
Your father needs to step up to the plate and handle your mother!
Cold showers may not harm your sister but they are mighty uncomfortable and not a pleasant experience!

you need to make your mom understand that its a health risk. your sister could catch pnenomia.

talk to your mom, and see if you can come up with a better, more humane punishment (make her mow the lawn or clean the house every day for weeks)

also, make your dad take notice. its fine if he wants the mom to do the discipline, but when its as dangerous as this one is, he needs to step up.

if none of this gets anywhere, call social services, or tell a counselor at school. dont just let it go, this isnt healthy for your sister, or even you.

Tell your dad if your sister tells anyone at school about this, at worst, social services will be paying your folks a visit, at best, you'll be getting a very embarrassing phone call home from the school counselor. Maybe he'll grow some balls to deal with Momma.

What? Does your mom want to stop your sister's heart?
Nothing she did could be bad enough to warrant that kind of punishment.

My advice is this, talk to your school counselor. Let him know that you are uncomfortable with the way your mother punishes your sister. He will advise you. (and probably call CPS, too)

Also, be there for her. Let her know that you are there for her.

Seriously...I really would call Childrens Services. It's not so much that a cold shower would harm her...but that sort of thing IS abnormal. This is NOT okay. You can do it anonymously so they won't know you called.

I would probraly take things in my own hands, I would let my mom know that she could definately get into trouble for being to harsh with your sister. If that doesn't change matters then I would defanetly make an anonymous phone call to CPS. Seems harsh to call on your own blood, but things could get worse for your sister if you don't.

Dude you need to get dad more involved. This could be a very dangerous act. Your sister could have some type of seizure due to this. If you dad does not want to get involve, maybe another family member.
