First, go to the vet and have your cat's stool examined if you already haven't. Tapeworm is hard to diagnose without a vet examine. Secondly, you'll have to get a prescription from the vet for tapeworm meds; usually a tablet on an injection. You'll also want to keep your cat up to date with a flea collar and all their shots; controlling fleas helps control tapeworm.

Tapeworms can not be killed by the average wormer. You must treat the cat with a wormer formulated for tapeworms. Follow all the instructions. At the same time you must also treat the cat to make sure it has no fleas. Fleas carry tapeworm eggs. As they bite the cat the cat will chew at them and if it swallows any fleas it will get tapeworms again. Tapeworms also spread when one of the segments (the whole worms are very long and what the cat poops out are just segments) is swallowed. Each segment can develop into an adult tapeworm. If your cat catches mice or other small animals it can get tapeworms from them or from any fleas that may be on them.

You can get Tapeworm medicine at Petco Or Petsmart. Make sure you follow the directions...most of the time it will recommend at least 2 doses to completely rid the animal of the parasite.
Cats can get Tapeworms from fleas and eating rodents or wild birds. Tapeworms seem to be the easiest kind of worm that dogs and cats can get. Not a big deal if you catch it in time...it is easy to treat.

Make sure that it is tapeworms. There are other parasites it can get and possible kill the cat if not treated correctly. There is a credit card you can get that most vets take if you have limited funds. Its called CareCredit. Call a vet and the should be able to tell you more about it.

nicely, no. yet definite. It would not get it from the cat in line with se, yet whilst that's grooming the different cat & swallows a flea wearing tapeworm eggs, then it may get tapeworm. Or if the litterbox is grimy & it steps in the different cat's feces, then cleans that's paw, it may additionally %. it up. I had a concern the place I further some fleas domicile from a flea infested residence, and dealt with 10 cats with fleas (horrid). ONE greater tapeworm, to my horror. fortuitously, i might worked for vets & known it in the present day, taken care of it in the present day, and none of my others have been given it. Yeck.

You have my sympathy. I just had to treat one of my cats for tapeworm. Pet stores sell pills, praziquantel, which I crushed and put in his wet food. It cost me $10 a pill but it appears it only took one.
Cats get tape worms from fleas. Use a treatment like Advantage to get rid of the fleas. Also change the cats bedding frequently. I put a pillow case over his pillow and toss it into the laundry every week or so. Vacuum the areas where he sleeps or naps.
Good Luck.

Tapeworms are very easy to diagnose. They look like little grains of rice and are capable of moving when first expelled. Nothing else is going to look like this. Praziquantel is extremely safe and is sold over the counter at pet stores or vets. Just dose it according to body weight.

take raw hamburger, form a bowl, fill it with 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, fold the meat over it, cook it, and feed it to your cat. Do this once a day for 3 days...The worm will leave.
Don't let your cat eat poop or walk in poop...good luck with that.
