You don't need anything to bring your dog into Mexico.
Bringing it back to the U.S. could be a different story. I would suggest that you bring along a few family pictures of your dog. If your dog is registered with the AKC, UKC, or other similar organization, you could bring that instead. You should bring its shot records. The shot records are the most important and would eliminate the need for any of the other things.
The problem, if there is one, will be if the inspectors believe that you found the dog in Mexico and wanted to bring it home. You can do that, but they will want to quarrantine the dog before you parade it around in the U.S.
Ultimately, it is up to their discretion as to whether to believe the dog is actually yours, or adopted from Mexico. If you bring along any of these items I mentioned, they aren't likely to give you a hard time unless you get stupid with them first.

It would be better not to take your pet with you. You will have to go to a vet and get papers showing the pet is not sick or carrying any kind of a bug. Then the same on the way back but from the other side of the boarder. I am thinking you will have to leave the dog at a vet on both sides in quarantine for 30 days after crossing the boarder. I am pretty sure of it on the way back into the USA. That is how it is to go into and back from Canada.

I believe all you need is a rabies vaccine at least 30 days old but under 1 year, and a health certificate within 10 days of travel. However you can find out much more info on www.ipata.com
That is the first stop I always make when traveling internationally with my pets. They usually have the information or at least a starting point. Good luck

G'day Gubi,
Thank you for your question.
I would check with the Mexican Embassy or consulate. I wouldn't take your dog to another country for the weekend as there are quarantine issues taking your dog across national borders.
If it were me, I would leave your dog with family or friends or even book it in a pet motel. It is much less hassle then taking him through quarantine.
Regards

Contact customs (Mexican and US).
They may or may not let you.
A lot of times they will either forbid animals or they will keep them in quarantine for a couple weeks....
Your best bet is to leave the dog at home or in a kennel.

If you're heading north-bound, all you need to do is pay some gringo with a van $100 and promise not to blow anything up on the other side.

I wouldn't take my dog into Mexico. What would you do with him/her while you're out partying? Better to board him with someone who will actually have time for him.
