Not advisable.The drywall won't stand the weight and will break out. If you must mount it between studs, Mount a sheet of wood big enough and thick enough to hold the weight, across between the two studs and anchored into them.

Don't do it. The first two folks provide the best methods. There is another, but it is more expensive. Trade shows use plasma and LCD monitors all the time and cannot mount them anywhere. There are a bunch of manufacturers that make a wide variety of stands. I found the link below in few minutes doing a simple yahoo search. They range from cheap and easy to complex and artful.

You could try hanging the tv from the ceiling using a ceiling mounting/hanging kit. Then all you would have to find is a joist to go into.
