As part of a custody battle the judge order both me and my ex-wife to go to “counseling”. My lawyer says she orders everyone to go. Anyway here is how a typical session went:

Counselor: What is bothering you?
Me: My has pissed away everything I have ever worked for and now she is costing me a fortune with this custody battle.
Counselor: How does that make you feel?
Me: (thinking to myself) Is this woman retarded?

"Counseling is effective because people feel better just talking."

Hello I can talk to a friend for free. If I am going to pay someone I want to talk to my lawyer. She can give me real advice on what to do about the situation.

I absolutely think that counseling is a scam... a good friend who listens to you about your problems is just as good - and you don't have to pay them a dime...

Counseling is usually not a scam. They deal with your feelings, not somebody elses. You don't have the power to change other peoples actions only yours. There is a role you played for every outcome in your life. Like you picked "your wife", maybe your picker is broken. The counselor would make you understand your role in the situation, your actions, and your responsibility, not the other person's.

what's a scam is having to pay somebody else so which you would be able to shed extra pounds! Whoever got here up with this one become quite into merchandising issues. you're able to do each and all of the paintings & pay somebody else for all which you do - come on - somethings incorrect with this image!

haha, yeah i agree they are way over paid for what they do....anyone can give advise as to what you should do....isnt that what this web site is all about?? does that mean i should get paid what 50 dollars an hour to answer questions??

on the other hand, i know this girl that goes to counseling and she was a complete mess before she started, and now she's almost normal again.....so i guess in some situations they can help...but in most i think you just need to learn to deal with things. and go waste your money on something else.

Does your wife have a gambling problem? Why has she pissed it all away? Why have you let her do it if you knew she was doing it? What is your wish for this outcome?

This is what a real qualified counselor should ask! Take care, Kitty

Well no sh*t you feel this way. You're not going because you WANT to go; you're going because it's mandated. You won't get anything out of it if you're not putting effort into it...but seriously, lighten the f*ck up a bit. I bet you're degree is just as "worthless." Us counselors don't get paid enough.

Well, I understand.

But, you are never going to work together with her if you are angry about the money.

Being a custodial parent requires the temperment/ability to eat a lot of sh*t.

Counseling is effective because people feel better just talking.

Counseling is usually good for a person. If it wasn't for counseling my youngest daughter would not be here today.

If I were you I would try different counselor and see if that helps.
