Yes your existing insurance will cover you providing you have full coverage on the previous vehicle. If not then notify your insurance company ahead of time and they can take care of any paperwork that you can take with you when you pick up the car.
If the office is far then while at the dealer ask if your insurance can fax temporary paperwork just in case you are pulled over or are in an accident.
Good Luck!...

Call your insurance company before purchasing to check their policy regarding this. If it's the weekend I would call my ins. agent and leave a message that I'd purchased this vehicle so they'd have knowledge of my purchase in case something happens between then and the next business day. Most states require full coverage if making payments, so I'd be sure I had full coverage before leaving the dealer lot, especially if only liability ins. was on the vehicle I was replacing. Insurance also depends on if the vehicle you are purchasing is replacing a vehicle or an addition to your vehicle(s). I know a couple of people who learned the hard way on this fact!

Yes, your current car insurance will cover you immediately. From the dealership, and before you get thru with the paper work, have the salesman call your insurance office so he can give him all the pertinent info of the new car. Your insurance guy will mail you a new card as soon as possible.

you can't leave the dealership in most states (may be all states) with out the new car being insured. you should call your existing insurance company and let them add the new car to your policy. it should go into effect immediately upon purchase of the vehicle.
