Very subjective question but if you go by what the pros play the Titleist Pro V 1 is the overwhelming choice but very expensive when you don't get them free. For an amateur WHO is grater than a 5 or 6 handicap you will never get the value out of them but they are great. Check EBay for recycled Prov V 1's or Titleist NxT.

There is a difference in best golf ball and most bought golf ball. Best golf ball depends on how much you want to spend and how much of a feel you get. I for instance, bought some Bridgestone B330's and were amazed at how much spin they produced, but played with their E6 and just watched the ball sail. I hit a drive that was 310+ on hard fairway (didn't rain for a while, but still). Best will be your decision. as for most popular, more than likely it will be either the Titlest Pro-V1 or Pro-V1X.

Pro VI but that does not mean it's the best golf ball for you. I have a link on my blog roll that helps you decide what ball works best for you
