as a beginner in golf, i've only been playing a short while and steadily getting better each time. my question is when i look at drivers and other golf clubs, i notice it mentions about degrees. what does that mean or what does the certain degree(s) pertain to with the clubs?

lower the number the lower the trajectory line (less loft) as a beginner you may want to look at 11-12 degree loft drivers.....

The loft comes in play when you talk about driver and sandwedges the rest are standard. You should play a lot hit a lot of different clubs go to some company demos before you start to purchase more golf clubs. You need to play a while before you will know what works best for you. You can go to the company web page to find out more about demo days. I have several links to web pages for beginners on 360 my blog roll.

The number on the club (i.e. 9 iron or 3 wood) pertain to the degree of the angle of the club.
The higher the number the greaeter the angle so the ball will get more lift and less distance with that club. The pros know exactly how far they hit with each club so they can know which club to hit with in any given scenario.

Its the measurement of loft on the face of the club. If a driver is labeled 10 degrees then the face tilts back 10 degrees from perpendicular. It determines the launch angle of the ball and trajectory of the balls flight.
