Does or has anyone here gone to culinary school? I'm thinking about applying to the The Art Institute of California - Orange County next year, I want to study Culinary Arts and later study Baking & Pastry. I was wondering how long it takes, what it's like, cost, etc. Thanks for any help at all!

AI Orange County is expensive (approx $40,000) , try a community college like OCC or Rancho Santiago for culinary classes, OCC is affiliated with the culinary institute of america, you can also try Le Cordon Bleu in pasadena but it's approx $45,000+ there also.

IMO going to professional cooking school is not worth it, go to a community college like OCC. You will end up spending 1/10 as much for a similar education.

My friend is a chef. She has an associate degree. She loved the classes but unfortunately the pay for a chef is generally poor for someone with this much time invested in college.

Took my daughter two months ago, to check, since I am on Workman's Comp. she qualifies for a grant, it is for about 3-9 months, depending if it is full time or part time and was $60,000..only be interested if you are cooking now, my daughter doesn't ever cook, nothing so she got over the idea..but only if your heart is set on it..if both your parents work it depends on their income if you qualifies for a grant...good luck

my husband went in NC but I don't know about cost or time or anything like that, just that he now loves his job, and is a great cook... Good luck to you , and I hope to someday see your name in lights at a famous bakery
