Buddies think it's "hooah"? Not a chance.

I was one of three Canadians in my infantry company (none of us naturalized American citizens, all of us with Permanent Residency due to movement when younger to Stateside addresses for family reasons) back in 2003, when they didn't have automatic citizenship. Us three had to listen to that "South Park" song "Blame Canada" over and over again from the other guys while we crossed Iraq from south to north.. All in good fun of course, That and the lumberjack jokes, the endless Bob and Doug McKenzie references, being called "hoser" etc. Yeah. Good fun.

The answer to your question, Questioner, is a resounding NO. Enlisting in the American military will not result in the forfeiture of your Canadian citizenship. Canadians and Americans have been crossing the border either way since the First World War to fight, depending on who is engaged in hostilities first.

Note that I said enlisting. Becoming a commissioned officer in either country requires that you be a full citizen.

You will not lose you're citizenship, but if you are interested in becoming an American citizen, you should look into dual citizenship. Many of the English speaking countries (US, Canada, Austrailia) offer dual citizenship. I'm sure being from Canada and serving the military, it would be rather easy.

A Canadian will lose his citiizenship only if he take his allegiance or oath as an American citizen but not necessarily after joining the US Army.

You want to go fight that bad? The 22eme Canadian Regt is in Afghanistan along with the RCR.. You can fight in the Canadian Infantry.. We lost 36 in Afghanistan most in the last 2 months so if you join you will go over if you want too. No probs.. In fact they are looking for new members to boost the size of our Armed Forces

My Army recruiter (both enlisted and officer) contacts told me one has to renounce any foreign citizenship before being commissioned as an officer. You don't for enlistment, but I think it makes gaining US citizenship easier if you want to later. And your buddies will think it is "hooah" of you.
