I think he's really mad at me too. He is so sore when you pick him up, he cries and cries. It makes me feel awful! Will he forgive me? He just got the shot today, when should he feel better?

Some dogs do get a little sore after shots- especially if he has thin skin. Some dogs go through a period of sleepiness after shots too. Just like any bruise or small injury he will start to feel better in a day or so. In fact, by tomorrow he might not even be sore at all.

If you want him to feel better you could give him extra attention and love.

If the injection site is raised or swollen you could get a warm (not hot) wash cloth and cuddle with him and put the wash cloth on the spot.

He will definatly forgive you. He just doesn't understand what happened and why he is sore right now. He will forget all about it relatively quickly. If he gets lots of love from you he won't stay upset for long :)

Also when you go to the vet make sure you let the vet assistant hold the puppy when he gets shots so he will not associate the shot with you. :) Good luck with your puppy!

Sometimes puppies may be a little sleepy, maybe a little sore, may run a low grade fever. (normal for dogs is up to 102.5) Don't worry about it, let him sleep it off. He may seem a little upset at you because he doesn't feel well. If he's not better in a day or so, call your vet. Some puppies experience these sorts of things with their first vacc, and sometimes their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, etc....

U can't really do anything to make it better, but it should go away within a few days. If he develops a lump or his face starts to get puffy then he could be having a reaction to the vaccine. He also might not want to eat a lot today and tomorrow and will usually just sleep it off. If you have a toy breed puppy then that could explain why he is crying. Toy breeds tend to be overdramatic. If you go along with his crying and whining then you could be setting yourself up for a major problem in the future. He will learn to ignore you and try and get what he wants regardless of what you want. Be tough and don't be too "sappy" with him. This could also go for larger breed dogs as well

please don't give him aspirin unless you talk to your vet first. !/2 a pill may be too large for his size or too small for him. Check with your vet

I'm sorry. Don't you hate having to do that--they don't understand we're trying to help them. Just sit on the couch with him and pet him and tell him what a good puppy he is. Usually they sleep a lot and by tomorrow he'll feel better, and he'll be back to thinking you are the STAR of the planet.

You did a good thing for your puppy even if it doesn't seem like it now.

He should become less sensitive over the next 48 hours. I would avoid picking him up where he received the shot. Just like you if you remember your shots, they were given in the muscle and caused some soreness? The best thing for your puppy is rest...sounds like you feel worse then he does...your a good mom to be concerned.

If he is not feeling better by tomorrow, I'd call the vet and ask. Most dogs do feel sore for a few days and can run a temp and be cranky.
Crying when you pick him up is not normal.

My vet has always suggested children's benadryl. I give my dogs 1/2 tsp but they are all under 10 lbs. This seems to help them and also makes them sleepy so they can sleep through the pain. Call your vet and see if this would be ok for your puppy.

awww. pore thing. im sorry to hear that. have you heard of somthing called aloe vera. you can go buy it at anyplace. but if you have the plant it is better. "no additives". the american indains use to use on there sled dog that pull the tipi around from place to place. if one of there dogs where to step on a catus spine or an thorn they would pull it out and stick aloe vera on it. aloe vera disinfects and prevents it from getting infected. and it helps it feel better. it might sting it will probably feel like a fle bite to the puppy for a second. but it will feel alot better. one more thing. i just looked it up. the indains used it on sunburns also just in case you get one. bye

I am sure that there is a Petsmart or Petco near you, where they have a schedule in the store when shots are given. They are the best priced shots available aside from giving them yourself. Then there is your vets office, where the price will be a little higher.

Puppies do not hold a grudge.....just cuddle him and he should feel better in a couple of days.

Did you ask the vet if you could give him something for pain? Actually, the vet should have suggested it.
