Everybody's scared of rejection. You just have to bite the bullet and take a risk anyway. If you never take a risk, you'll simply end up in the same place you'd be if you were rejected by everybody.
On the bright side, it gets easier with experience :-)

Hes the hottest guy in school! And he's your friend! How can you pass up an opportunity like that? If you really think he's all that and a bag of chips, go for it. Whats worse, being rejected or not knowing that this amazing guy likes you, till its too late. If you are rejected, atleast you can move on, but you cant if you never try.

What makes the hottest celebrities so hot? CONFIDENCE. Taking a risk, putting your self out there, these are things that are attractive. No matter the outcome, you will earn a lot of respect and more then likely a few admirers. But until you ask him out, you're rejecting the possibility entirely.

Go for it do it...I dated my best friend...and it was the greatest EVER...but we broke up....and that was the worst EVER...broke up a year ago and I'm still not over her....but of course she's over me and probably dating someone....man...going off topic...anyway....do it...dating your friend could be the greatest moments of your life...it was mine....good luck
