im going to play devils advocate here.... salt water can be ok depending on the concentration of salt.
many sparkling mineral waters from natural springs have amounts of sodium in them.
also, some people drink salt water when they fast - they use sea salt that you can buy at a grocer. however the amount is something like 1 or 2 teaspoons per 36 ounces of water - so again fairly diluted.
if you have a question about drinking salt water you should ask your doctor.

Salt water is good for rinsing out the mouth to cleanse germs and infections only. It should not be swallowed to quinch thirst. It dehydrates the body followed by experiencing hallucinations and delusions. Too much can/will result in death.

due to concentration gradient, salt water will actually make the water that's already in your body leave (dehydrating you)
so, drinking salt water is kind of the opposite to drinking water.

no! it dries your mouth out, and if a lot of it were to enter your lungs you could die. but salt water is good to cure a soar throat. gargle it, but do not swallow. and it also make you thirstier.

No, it will actually deplete the body of it's water, by draining the cells of their vital fluids.

No, it can kill you. Just like sea water. You shouldn't drink like a whole gallon (I don't know why anyone would do that) because it dehydrates you.
