Do you not know how weight loss works? How can you want to start running but not have a clue how it can benefit you. Why don't you type running into your search engine and check out some runners websites.
It's good cardio exercise, but can be hard on the joints (due to the impact). Wear a good quality pair of shoes, and run on a surface other than concrete if ya can (something softer, easier on the body).
Anything over 20 mins is supposed to be good for calorie burning and weight loss...40 mins will be good as long as you keep moving...walk briskly if you get tired and cannot run the whole time...
Good luck..and happy weight loss!

Besides the fact that it makes u sweat........ lol Running is excellent way of burning fat and calories. Your heart rate needs to maintain approximately 120 beats per minute for a minium of 20 minutes- it starts burning fat like melting butter after that. Most times it burns calories just as fast when you keep at a steady pace- if u go slow than fast then slow than fast- it doesnt work as well as one steady pace. You will burn approximately 345 calories per hour of running or walking fast. PLUS it keeps your heart rate up and metabolism running for a long while once you stop running! Good luck to u

it will improve your cardiovascular health which burns more calories all over as well as lowers your blood pressure and heart rate which are both good, your stomach will become more muscular from the muscles keeping it upright through constant movement, your arms will become more tonned because of constant movement and they also help with making you go when you get tired... just think of your arms instead of your legs, your legs will become more slim and toned due to obvious reasons, and if you eat not long after you run your metabolism will still be working quicker so you wont gain as much weight that way either... but be forewarned... its not easy just to start running 40 mins a day... and make sure you do side stretches to prevent getting a cramp in the side

running helps build endurance.
As your muscles contract they use energy. Your body takes this energy from fat deposits. So running 40 minutes a day should help you burn fat, as long as you do not increase your caloric intake.

Take it easy at first.
Buy new shoes often.
Learn how to land your foot properly and once you feel an injury STOP and wait. Careful about knee and ankle injuries including bone spurs.
It's great for cardio and toning your legs.
