It is good if you are dehydrated; vomiting and diarreah. However, if you just have a cold hot green or herbal tee is good to open up your sinuses and help you breathe.

I think it's just important to get enough rest and drink plenty of fluids when you have a cold. Gatorade and Powerade are both good choices, because of the electrolytes they contain. But, other juices like grape and apple juice work well too. Just make sure you get the rest you need to recover.

Gatorade and Powerade have alot of sodium and can dehydrate if drank in large quantities. I would suggest orange juice for the Vitamin C also water or any type of hot soup to sooth a sore throat. Good Luck I am sick myself and seem to have a worse sore throat when drinking Gatorade especially.

Your best thing to drink, is always, always going to be water. Stay hydrated, and that will give your body it's best defense. Throw in a gatorade every now and then, to keep up your energy, but water should be your main drink of choice.

Any other drink, like special teas, or water with honey, is more or less a wives tale. The main ingredient in all of them is, you guessed it, water.

My father taught me this in childhood: In hot tea, add honey, and dissolve a cough drop in it.

I LOVE Halls cough drops, especially the ones with the liquid drops in the middle.

One addition, I found out through a magazine 3-1/2 years ago: Steep ginger root in tea. Well, I didn't know where to find ginger root, so I just used ginger spice instead. It helped to to better cough up when I needed to cough up. I used ginger spice in the tea alone, and with cough drop.

Hope you feel well soon!
