A friend of mine uses laxitives for weight loss and I recently read that models do this too. What are the drawbacks to this type of weight-loss? I only need to lose about 5 lbs, maybe 10 lbs max. I exercise but I have IR (insulin resistance) so it is somewhat harder to lose weight.

BAD choice. Laxatives don't burn fat, they simply expel what's already in your colon and cause the expulsion of what you eat prior to your body aborbing it as it normally would.

Laxative use keeps your body from getting the beneficial things it needs from the foods you eat...dehydration, and vitamin and mineral deficiences can occur. Strong laxatives can affect your bowels in such a way that they become damaged.

"Continued laxative use can cause bloating, cramping, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and imbalances, cardiac arrhythmias, irregular heart beat and heart attack, renal problems, and death. Laxatives also cause withdrawal symptoms. "

I dont know much about the effects. But my doctore once told me, in a very simple and digestable information about laxatives and losing weight. She said that, laxatives is recommended to reduce water retention in your body. Therefore, if you use it, you'll be shitting more than you need a day and this can cause damage as in losing too much water.

The impact of having less water in your body might leads to the shrinkage of internal organs. At the end, these organs will not be functioning at all. And THAT is dangerous!

However, you WILL lost weight but inside...you are a wrack!!..So, laxatives isnt the right way to lost weight ok.

Ya know using laxatives for weight loss is basically the same thing as bulimia. It just makes you "dump" out everything you've eaten(if you know what I mean)and I wouldn't recommend it. You should talk to a doctor if you have trouble loosing weight, maybe a doctor can help.

Why would you take weight loss tips from a model? They are the most unhealthy, mentally screwed up, shallow, and narcissistic people on the planet. They would rather die than gain a pound, which they often do.

To answer your question directly, smoking crack or meth would be a healthier way to lose weight.

Have you asked your doctor for advice on how you can lose weight? Ask them what kinds of things you should avoid, and what kind of things will help you. I agree with everyone else, taking laxatives to lose weight is *BAD*! Don't do it.

Please, do not attempt to lose weight this way. It is dangerous. you could end up in an emergency room or a coffin. The fastest way is fresh fruits and vegetables every three hours and at least one half gallon of water daily. This link will show you what actually could happen to your body.
