We have a mix between an Austrialian Shepherd and a Poodle and there are quite a few brown spots and patches where he goes #1 on the lawn....is there any way we can restore this to its green color and how can we prevent it in the future?

We found that watering down the spots right after our dogs peed helped. Leave a watering can full of water on the porch or somewhere close by.

There are products on the market that you can feed with the dogs food to lessen the effects of urine on the grass, I dont know how successful they are but i would rather try to tomtoto juice remedy as this does work and you are introducing less unnatural additives to your dogs diet using pure tomatoe juice then these so called 'herbal products' as they ahve a lot of chemicals in them and I would be wary of the long term affects on the dogs health. Another idea is right after the dog has peed pour about a litre of water over the patch (a jugs worth) to dilute the urnine. You can always just live with it, I don't know anyone with an immacualte lawn thats keeps a dog too (unless they keep the dog off the lawn)

The reason for the spot is the urine has a high nitrogen content. With adequate water the spot is actually greener than the rest of the lawn, but without a lot of extra water it acts like a fertilizer burn.

There is a product you can buy at Petco or Petsmart that you can put on the spots that will help, but not sure how effective it is.

Well.. that is the reason why I have a lawn(back yard) because I want the doggies have a place to go that they like. The only thing you can do is to water it a lot and the water leaches the urine down

do you have a female dog? it is the urine of the female dog that burns the grass. Your vet can help with safe additives for the dogs drinking water. Unfortunately the roots of the grass have been burnt so time is needed for lawn to regenerate, however there are many types of fertiliser speak to your local nursery for advice on the right one to use.

I would designate a certain area for your dogs to go to the bathroom. like an area way in the back corner of your yard. This will limit how many brown spots you have in your yard .

If you have any rocks or gravel try to get your dog to use the bathroom there. Then water your grass once in the morning and once at night but not when it's too sunny because your grass might burn. Good Luck !!!
