All parts of the coconut palm are useful, and the trees have a comparatively high yield (up to 75 fruits per year); it therefore has significant economic value. The name for the coconut palm in Sanskrit is kalpa vriksha, which translates as "the tree which provides all the necessities of life". In Malay, the coconut is known as pokok seribu guna, "the tree of a thousand uses". In the Philippines, the coconut is commonly given the title "Tree of Life".

1, It may be dieing of old age. We do not know when the tree was planted. Coconuts usually have a life span of less than 50 years. 2, It may have a disease called Lethal Yellowing. If this is the case, it will live for a few more years. 7 to 10,perhaps, but will bear less fruit. 3, Apply 1 pound of 14-14-14 fertilizer, for each inch of diameter, in the soil around the base of the tree. 4, Apply 1 pound of 41 % nitrogen for each inch of diameter. Incorporate into the soil. 5, If it is outside, do not water. You may be drowning the tree. 6, Apply Rock salt around the base of the tree. 2 pounds will be enough. Coconuts grow near the ocean and require salt to thrive.

Coconut palms are heavy feeders so you may need to apply a balanced blend of fertilizer. Diseases and pests of Coconuts in the US are pretty much limited to Lethal Yellowing Disease or White Flies. If your tree has Lethal Yellowing, there is no cure, but the disease can be held in check with quarterly injections on oxytetracycline. Usually, if a regimen of injections isn't started the tree will die within six months or so of the first symptoms. White flies are easy to see because the underside of the fronds will be covered with white-eggs and adults. They can be controlled with common insecticides. Lastly, although coconuts grow well by the seaside, they also grow just as well inland. Contrary to popular belief, they do not need salt to flourish. Salt is a detriment to most plant growth.

It is used as a vital source for food, health and general well-being. Pacific Islanders consider coconut oil to be the cure for all illness. The coconut palm is so highly valued by them as both a source of food and medicine that it is called “The Tree of Life.”
