There are many schools of thought currently about what to feed dogs. I worked at a survey company and each year we did a survey with vets about Dog Food. I personally spoke to over 50 vets about which dog food they recommend- the one food that ALL vets did NOT recommend was the Bones And Raw Food Diet. All of the vets DID recommend any of the commercially bought dog foods. The thing to be concerned about is that your dog has specific dietary needs that the commercial dog foods are designed to meet.
I personally like the "Natural Balance" dog foods. These dog foods are full of great stuff like Flaxseed oil and high quality protiens.
For German Sheperds I would recommend a large breed dog food with a glucosamine and condrotin additive to help keep their joints healthy.
One last little bit of advice- Stay away from the "bottom shelf" dog food like Old Roy ect as these usually have more fillers and less quality parts of meat.

Any good quality dog food will be fine, also its a good idea to add cottage cheese to the food. It helps their joints. In the long run you will be happy that you did. Good luck to you and your shepard.
