my friends son has a writing quiz on how to write a good story, but he does not know what
Thesis means

please help soon,test tomarrow 9-27-06 bed time 9 o-clock p.m so i have to tell him before 9 p.m to-night !!!

You don't say what grade level.
Generally, begin with an outline (if he has studied this).
Have a good catchy beginning, lots of details in the middle of the story (developing the idea, plot, etc.), and a surprise ending.
