I heard there is a way to put the voice recordings onto a computer from the Olyupus device, but I can't find it in the instructions. Anyone know? I would just record with a computer microphone, but I don't have one.

This device is a small $30.00 item. It is blue and silver.

There are two things you need - a cable that goes from your VN 1000's headphone jack to your computer's LINE-IN connection, and a recording program. For the cable, I can't tell you EXACTLY what you need, since I don't know what connectors are on your computer, but I made one for my system from Radio Shack parts. It starts off with a headphone volume control, set pretty low (the computer's LINE-IN is expecting rather weak signals, and sending headphone output straight into it isn't good), then an adapter to go from 1/8" headphone jacks to RCA connectors. If your PC's input is also a 1/8" jack, you will need another adapter, or set of adapters to convert. If you can bring your VN 1000 and your computer into the store, they might be able to help you.

For the recorder program, you should go to

and download the AudioGrabber program, and then the LAME MP3 encoder (LAME MP3 DLL). The instructions for installing AudioGrabber and LAME are on the website. This program will accept input from the LINE-IN and produce MP3 or CD WAV files that you can listen to later or burn to CD.
