God forgives all sins as long as the person repents.

This is a very fine thin line.

I think, the law of the land principle can be use here.

In act of self defence, it is generally classified as accidental killing, or something lower than 2nd degree murder. But it is not usual sentance to death.

Thus, one have to proof their innocent, and the law will also check if excessive force were used.

For example, a person only armed with a 3" knife, and you shot him with sub-machine gun, I guess it is hard to justify.

In the same manner, it is the matter of the heart. If your intention for killing is purely accident, or intention.

Again, killing may not be using our own hands, and God is equally angry about it. for our own act, we cause someone to die. Even not from our own hands, nor directly by us, it is a sin.

In that case, law of the land may excuse us, but the Lord knows. A good example was David's murder without even using a single finger. God send Prophet Nathan to rebuke him.

So, wherther God will excuse us or not is very subjective. Subjective not on the part of God, but on our part to comment, as there are many factors involved. But I believe, the subject who did it knows best.

By and large, I think, it is purely out of innocent self-defence, God knows and will pardon us. But you know yourselve, how innocent we are.

Self defense is not murder. It is simply killing. Also, the commandment never said that thou shall not kill. The original text says thou shall not murder. Huge difference. Now, the next part is this. Yes, you are okay to kill in self defense.

Obviously there are cases where murder is acceptable. When Moses' people impale a man holding hands with a foreign woman, god is ecstatic. So I'd say yes.

Murder is when you intentional put in your mind that you are going to kill someone. God sees all, and knows all. He knows if it is self-defense, and He will not hold that against you if you ask for forgiveness, and mean it.

If you look in your bible you will know the answer.
1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
i am not sure self defense is a sin.........

to answer that i would lead you back to the original text.

Thou shall not commit murder"

not thou shall not kill....

in that time murder had a different meaning than it does today.

at that time murder was to kill a man for no reason. or for the joy of killing him.

to take his home, money or land was a perfectly good reason to kill someone...Joshua and the land of Jerusalem, for example.

if a man tried to kill you and you killed him instead, no murder was commited.
