What are your pet peeves in regard to word meanings or useage?

Mine would be "Wherefore art thou, Romeo?" Everyone thinks it means where are you, Romeo? BUT it means she is asking out loud, Why does his name have to be Romeo? Since the name is the whole problem in the relationship.

I just hate when people use that sentence when they are looking for someone or looking for you and put your name in it.

I have a million pet peeves with regard to usage-- for instance, when someone says "with REGARDS to" instead of "with regard to" or (more correctly) "regarding"! ("regards" are like compliments or good wishes right? "Give my regards to Broadway.")

One that really annoys me is the misinterpretation of the phrase "for all intents and purposes" that changes it to "for all intensive purposes"--! (derp...)

Also let's not leave out the horribly misused word "hopefully"-- "Hopefully we'll get it right this time." THERE'S NO SUCH USAGE, PEOPLE! "I hope that we will get it right this time," is what you mean there and if you use the word "hopefully" I HOPE it is as an adverb: "Hopefully (as in 'full of hope') we entered the church to pray for our salvation."

Even really educated people butcher "its" and "it's". "It looked at its watch and said, 'It's half past nine, I wonder if it's going to rain.' " Most people hyphenate "its/it's" no matter how it's used because they are afraid to **** up.

I hate when people say "good to go" from the taco bell commercial. It drives me nuts. I have a co-worker who says it all the time. It is annoying and unprofessional and a bit on lame side when he says it a hundred times a day regarding food to projects to his family to tv shows.... quite frustrating.

It is not a usage that makes my teeth grind but a pronunciation -

Library is correct. "LieBERRY" is not! Even adults on TV whose characters are meant to be doctors say, "I'm going to the lieberry!"

aaahhh. . . when people, especially adults don't know the difference between it's/its, they're/there/their, and you're/your. it's pretty pathetic.

oh and when people don't use their blinkers when switching lane. . and consequently, when they forget to turn them off.

and people who make noise when they eat. . . makes me want to punch them.

and people who wRiTe LiKe ThIs! AAAAAHHHH! okay, enough, now i'm getting irritated!

I dislike when people constantly add "like" into their sentences...tell us what it is, not what it's like!
