We live in southern California. I don't want to just drop off toys at Goodwill. I want my daughter to see what happens when she gives a toy to a child who really needs it. We don't have any women's shelters in my area - all too far away.

Do you have any homeless shelters in your area? or soup kitchens? or a cancer center at a hospital? There may be sick kids in the foster system with no mommy or daddy to bring him a toy truck...

Look in the phone book there has to be something in your area..maybe a lending library for unwed mothers
Tell your child that some little kids don't have a nice home or a nice mom and dad , like she does and they have no nice clothes or toys and it is all our responsability to help each other in this world
Have her ,...chose what she wants to part with...give her the freedom to help some one....... and she will
and she will probably be so giving it will amaze you... children learning to share with those less fortunate is a lesson we all should strive to teach our own
It is a wonderful thing and good luck

Check with your local chamber of commerce to see if there are any orphanages or children's centers around. You may also be able to go through your local library - most have a children's center. Many high schools do a Christmas gift program for community service as well - so you can check to see there as well. You could also check with daycare centers to see if they need stuff. Or, check with a children's hospital. I think it is a noble idea - my dad did it with me when I was a child every Christmas...and I did it with my girls as well. It is a wonderful family tradition and I hope my daughter passes it on to her daughter as well! I've included an address for Five Acres, located in the Pasadena area. There is also one in Covina, CA called San Gabriel Children's Center.

there r good reasons why most donations like this are given anomiously. consider the reciever of the donation. while ur daughter gets to feel all warm and fuzzy - someone elses daughter learns how to be gratefully humble? thats asking an awful lot of anyone, and way too much of a child. surely u can explain to ur child how rewarding being generous is? being giving and generous does not require an eyewitness account mum - it all happens in the heart.

I know that here is Idaho, that we have a Secret Santa. People that need stuff (toys) for children can write a letter and send it to the Post Office. The Post Office will save all the letters and will give them to the people that want to give gifts for Christmas. As a Secret Santa, you can go directly to their house and give the gifts to the children and family. I know many families that will take their children with them.

A local hospital with a children's wing would be a great idea... children there could always use a pick-me-up. Another idea is to donate them to a preschool in a low-income area that may not be able to afford more than the basics.

try talking to human services or maybe talk to the hospital maybe there r some kids there that would enjoy getting a toy to lift their spirits cuz its no fun being in the hospital it could make the experience a little better for some scared little kid

You can contact or inquire from friends any charities for children where you can bring your child and let herself give the toys personally to the children for her to know how it feels like sharing something to children just like her.

Go to a battered womens shelter. They have their kids there with them so she can see the kids who are going to appreciate her toys.
