I have always been a southern baptist, but my husband thinks they are stuck up and a bit snobby and wants to try a wesleyan church. I just want to make sure I know what to expect. Thanks!

Some men made awful comments in the mens sunday school class that offended him greatly. It made him feel like they thought they were better then everyone else.

First and far most, all denominations that accept Apostle Creed, or Nicene Creed is the same.

There is no better church. All have fallen men, and that will spoil the church. Including me.

Baptised believe in full submersion in Baptism, and the office holder structure is different. They were form in UK, and were persecuted by Anglican (I'm one) and Catholic before they left for America. That is some 3 hundreds back.

Methodist is reform from Anglican, by John Wesley and his brother Calvin (who gave us so many humns). He was a Anglican priest preached a lot in America, setting up many churches.

So, inevitabily, ordained many pastors. But in Anglican, ordination of priest order is the work of Bishop. So, those groups were not recongnised by Anglican, and thus were seperated.

But Methodist too, have the same organisation structure as Anglican, with a Bishop at the Top. Baptise do not have.

In my opinion, both are the same. Very good as they were very much concern for the welfare of the poor, and send out many missionary. Especial in Asia (I'm in), I have seen many schools, hospital, and churches set up by them, and we owe the Gospel to the Baptist and Methodist.

HOpe it helps.

I'm neither a member of the Wesleyan Church nor a Southern Baptist, but I have attended services at both. Generally speaking, they are both excellent groups. Wesleyans are an offshoot of Methodism, started by John Wesley, a Church of England priest. Baptists derive from the reformation in Switzerland. The main doctrinal difference is that Baptists generally follow the Calvinistic teaching that once a person is truly born again, he/she cannot lose salvation. Wesleyans follow the Arminian belief that it is possible to lose salvation.

Don't know why he thinks Southren Baptist are stuck up, you can do a web search on Doctrine of the Wesleyn church and compare the difference. One difference they may have is full submersion baptisim, but not sure about anything else. You can also try a web search for a Wesleyn churches and click onto one of their sites and see what their church doctrine or beliefs are.

Not a whole lot. The Methodist here in Georgia are really pretty mellow and the Baptist are a little more lively. This is sort of strange because of the Westley's "in your face" style of evangelism that defined the early Methodist.

Well, you should go and find the church that both of you are the most comfortable at. Hey, you can even start your own if you like. I'm sure that you have lots of friends that would help you out. The Lord knows that we need a good place to practice Work-ship.

I've always thought that the Wesleyans were a sub-denomination of the Methodists.

when he says they are all stuck up, that would be the people not the beliefs of a church.(Is he also meaning you?) we shouldnt worry about what others are doing in church , but what we do in the church.
they are both denominations and Christ speaks against denominations......
