Onthe first day God created heaven and earth. He created light, and separated light from darkness.
Genesis 1 (NIV)
The Beginning
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was [or became] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
Now if you're asserting that the story is a parable and that God did something other than create heaven and earth and create light, I'd like to know what you think God really did at that time.

Personally I don't agree with your assumption that the method of teaching was by parable. I believe it was literal although there are symbolic lessons to it. God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day." The spiritual symbolism is that Christ is the light that would come into the world and enlighten every man, just as the sun would be given to give physical light to everyone on earth.

Genesis 1
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
Light is God and all that is good, darkness is where evil and all that is bad dwells. God separated good from evil. Before light, darkness was even darker than you imagine. Even darker than imagining the night time with no lights. Imagine the earth with no sun and no moon and stars to light it. Cold, can not see, ill feeling and sadness. The light brings warmth and relaxation, sight and sight of all that is beautiful, a sense of well being.

Who said Genesis was a parable?
"Holy men of old spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God..."
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

If you take a good look, you will find the Goddess there. She is not personified like the Hebrew/Christian God is. She is the element of water (female). In short, if you take a close look, God did not create water. He blew (air - a male element) across the water prior to creation itself.

Moses did not write Genesis. Where do you people get these ideas? If you are trying to knock the bible, please read it first.
