First and foremost, take your dog to the vet and make sure there is no underlying cause, he could have a urinary infection that makes him feel as tho he has to go more than usual. If he checks out okay and he's old enough, have him neutered, while there, ask the vet about the problem, they should be able to help and may even have brochures on the subject. If this doesn't alleviate the problem you could put him in a crate at night, be sure to take him out right before you put him in for the night and then as soon as you get up. If it's not too much trouble get up in the middle of the night and take him out, eventually he'll get the idea, but I will almost bet he has some illness or he just needs to be neutered.
Another thing is you must clean the area where he has already gone, completely so there is no tattle tale sign of urine. Pet stores have a pet urine cleaner/deodoriser- if there is any smell of urine left and he can smell it, he will keep going there so it is imperative you get those all cleaned, you may have to use scalding hot water in those areas, you may even have to rent a carpet cleaner or get professionals to come in.
Good luck, now call the vet and make an appointment asap, and get that little baby checked, if he has an infection it is very uncomfortable and you don't want him to suffer with that any longer than he has too.

My daughter has a Basset hound that does the same thing!
We crate the dog at night, and let her out in the yard when we get up at 6:00 a.m.
Then we turn a def ear to the pitiful wines for 10 minutes. I actually turn on the kitchen timer so Won't be tempted to give in.
Then the dog is aloud to run free in the house if we are all home to monitor her, but if we go out I am afraid she goes back in the crate for the duration. The floor is remarkably drier, even though I feel like a bad parent!

My 4 month old puppy does this as well- she doesn’t want to go outside when the ground is wet at all. If she sees it raining or the ground is wet she will freeze in the door way and go potty, so we found our own way around that that might work for your dog if he is smaller. Since she usually has to potty after eating I have started feeding her in her crate and she will bark when she is done and ready to go potty. If it is raining or the ground is wet I will usually pick her up and carry her outside- and we will stay out until she goes. Although this won’t be fun when she is 40 some lbs, it has certainly prevented any accidents from not wanting to go out in the rain.

I have a spoiled one who doesn't like the rain too! I made sure I fed her when I would be around for 20 minutes, then I took her out with the umbrella and stood ignoring her for about 5 min. and she learned to do her business...this only took me three times for her to figure out it was not an option to go in the house because she hated waiting outside with me in the rain.
Leaving food out all the time complicates things but feeding at regular times gets them on a schedule rain or shine.
I also use the pee-pee pad by the door if I will be away too long, they are specially scented to attract the dog to them for potty time.

You are not alone. My 3 yr old dog started doing the same thing about 6 months ago. She only does it at night.I will get out of bed to let her out. She'll run out and come back in.I think she's done or didn't have to do anything but 5 min later shes doing it on the carpet. Only when its raining out. She sleeps in the bed with me at night and I have to keep my room door closed to make sure she won't sneak out to the carpet. She has never done anything in my room where she sleeps. But I am totally at a loss as well. If I forget and leave my door opened I will find a surprise. She totally knows she did wrong too. I just put my hands on my hips and look at her and she will turn her head away like she is ignoring me but be looking at me with her eyes. I'll tell her she is bad and she starts to shake and be all pitiful. When she does her buisness outside at night I praise her but I just wanted to let you know you are not alone and your dog is not the only one who don't want to pee in the rain.
I don't know what to do eaither. My husband says to leave her outside all night but I won't do that.

determination. my jr had the same problem. put you coat on and stand out in the rain with the dog till it does something, even if it takes hours! mine hated going out in the rain but she soon got the idea that as soon as she had done her business she could go back in. get ready for hard work and having a lot of patience.......and getting very wet! you just gotta do it, you have a dog- you do what it takes. it sucks at first but its better than having a smelly house

He just doesn't like going out in the rain. My Boxers are the same way. Make him a potty area in the house when it rains. My spot is in our laundry room, I put thick chip board down on the floor & they know they can do their business there if it's raining. Works well for us!

put the dog in a kennel and keep him there until it stops raining outside. then take him out as soon it stops raining. it will be ok if he toilet in the kennel when he is in there. its better in there, then all over the house. make sure you have a big enough kennel so you can also put a dog pee-pad in there too.

i know it might sound a bit harsh but next time its raining make sure he is outside for most of the and eventually he will have to go. hopefully this will get him out of the habit, because dogs work on routine. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
