I just took my dog to the vet to check for pregnancy, he didn't feel anything and said it might have been a few days to early to feel anything while palpating, well today I had put one hand underneath her and with my other hand felt softly around, well I felt one ball about the size of my thumb and round, could this be a pup? I hadn't felt this before, also she has a white discharge is it normal?

It might be a pup, but caution.....if she IS pregnant, and you don't use proper technique while palpating, you can cause her to miscarry. (Palpation for pregnancy is normally performed between days 17-21 of gestation.)

A white discharge is not normal. She might just have vaginitis, or it could be a more serious (life-threatening) uterine infection called pyometra. Squeezing her tummy can cause it to rupture and release pus into her abdomen...NOT a good thing!

You might also have just felt what we call a 'fecal ball'....which is normal (it's just a ball of poop in the intestinal tract.)

It MIGHT even have been a bladder stone you felt.

Bottom line....it takes years to learn how to do this, and not cause harm in the process. Please leave it to your veterinarian, who is trained and experienced to do so.

If your DVM doesn't have an ultrasound, please ask for a referral. That's the absolute best and safest way to confirm pregnancy.

No it is not a pup you have to push quiet hard to feel a pup and if you vet could not feel anything than you will probably not as he know what he is looking for and had done it for years the discharge is normal it is her body reacting to being preg she will do this even if she is having a phantom preg i had a girl who we thought even the vet that she was preg until we got her ultra sounded and their was no pups she even went into false labour it was so funny but i felt for her.
