You forgot to say where you're flying from. That makes a difference, since the airlines you'd fly would be different depending on where you live.
The cheapest way to do it is to get a credit card with frequent flier miles for the airline you fly most, and charge everything you buy, every groceries, on that card. You have to pay it off at the end of the month to avoid interest, but the frequent flier points add up quickly. And you get points each time you fly. I flew from Baltimore to Australia for $95, which was the airport taxes...the flight itself was free.

If you are travelling from the UK, MaxJet from Stansted to JFK is probably as cheap as you will find. Travel Tuesday or Wednesday for the best deal. Reports say prices are $750/£450 return

The least expensive that I have found is an airlines called "Air Tran".......the deals are amazing. far outweighing Priceline...I know first hand on account of a visiting relative....we saved over $200.00 out of CAK to laguardia...then a $13.00 shuttle to Jfk. Air Tran ONLY flies into La Guarduia...and they are so very prompt you can count on it like the sun rising!
