Us Westerners are just transcribing it differently. They've always pronounced it the same.

Its actually the same...who cares ...doesn't matter...its just a spelling. Pronounciation is the same. even if it isn't....the meaning is still the same...
Quran, Al-Qu'an, Koran Mozlems, Muslims, Moslems etc. etc..
Its just the in Arabic it is said and written the same way but when translated it is differnt.

Ten years ago there were less converts from Christianity who would speak the Truth without fear of Christian oppression, which they know to be bluff.
Ten years ago you could not even find Allah in a translation of the Quran and Muslims said there is no god but god. Today it is "There is no God but Allah".
Ten years ago, and even today, Muslim said and some still say Jesus is a prophet of Islam, but you wont find Muslim like me accepting that because there are no Jews, no Christians and no Jesus in the Quran.
You will find soon too that there will be Masjids and not Mosques.
I have removed all of the Gods from my copy of the Yusuf Ali translation of the Quran and rightly replaced them with "Allah". and I even got a gift of one of these translations with Allah where before there was God.
It is because of my letters to the Presidents of the USA that George W Bush used and continues to use Allah, or, left up to the moderates and the Sunni and the Shia President George W Bush would not be able to pronounce at least one name correctly, that of Allah.
There is a new breed of Muslim thats overcoming the ignorance of centuries of ignorance.
Now that you know Quran and Muslim and Allah you have no excuse for living in ignorance.

interesting question. ten yrs ago we were muslims who read Quran and no wit is muslims and Quran. here is why, muslims who really do read Quran aren't extremists and do not provoke riots. and muslims who do not read Quran and fall for others words are the one who are causing chaos.
Quran has stayed the same, yet there is a difference in muslims now.

Becuase ten years ago we depended on scholars who did not speak Arabic as their first language to transliterate these terms. Now we have more accurate spellings that better reflect Arab sounds becuase we rely on scholars that speak Artabic as their first language.

I think that it is Koran in English and Q***** in Arabic. I have always spelt it Koran when I've had to use the word. Who cares anyway?

Huh? That's a great question. Maybe the latter is a closer transliteration in efforts to be more PC. It used to be "indian" and now it is "Native America" (which is much clearer, anyway).
