OK my 1st question is how tall is she? I also want to mention she is young so if she is healthy don't worry too much. She will thin out as she gets taller. Here is some info that I hope helps you. Also if she is bigger for her age attempt to start a healthier lifestyle for your whole family. Become more active and try getting her involved with after school programs that involve exercise such as playing some sports. Don't let your child sit around after she eats. Encourage her to walk or Rollerblade. Just keep active. It seems to worry you more than her seeing that you are a mother and she is a kid who just wants to have fun. Make exercise fun for her. It will help her later on in life if she keeps her weight healthy cause once you get older its harder to lose weight.Good Luck and I hope I helped in some small way.

It depends on her height. If she's 4'8" that's high, if she's 5' 6" its too low, if she's 5'1" it's about right.
Note that kids will often pudge a bit right before they get taller.
What you say to her about it can do more harm than good. If you make her feel bad about herself, you may well create self-esteem issues that will make it MORE likely that she'll get a real weight problem.
Weight control with kids is pretty basic, they need lots of exercise, and a lot less junk food and more fruits and vegetables.
My guess is that she spends too much time on her behind, and that her parents are serving her too much fast food or meals from a box. All that prepared stuff is crap.
You as aunt or uncle really don't have any control over their choices. You can talk to their parents about instilling healthy habits, but usually kids reflect their parent's choices so I'm guess that's how the whole family eats.
The best you can do is offer to pay for a dance class, cheerleading, karate or some other physical activity that SHE finds interesting.
Developing a passion for exercise is an excellent start and it isn't too late to get her there.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

Know if you need to lose weight
Health specialist use a measure called BMI, short for Body Mass Index. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women. This gives a good measure of your total body fat. BMI compares your height and weight. It shows if you are underweight, at a healthy weight, or overweight.
You know how many pounds are there in 1 kg. Do not know let me help you, it is 1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds. Check out what your BMI is by using the BMI calculator at
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/adult_BMI/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.htm
BMI Category
Below 18.5 Underweight
Between 18.5 - 24.9 Healthy Weight
Between 25 - 29.9 Overweight
Over 30 Obese
Look at the BMI chart to find out how much weight you need to lose to move from obese to overweight or from overweight into a healthy range. Knowing this can help you set a good weight loss goal.

This is nothing to worry about. My niece was 215lbs and is 12 and 5'1. (We joined the Y and she is already down to 204... without any dieting at all!) At this age, they can lose and gain weight easily.... but their feelings are really easily hurt. If she seems a bit pudgy, find out some activity she likes and encourage her to do more by joining her!

Well how tall is she? Plus that's not your daughter so you should stay out of it. Girls grow up self concious enough and if she is overwieght like the rest of the country then the brats at school will let her know and the only one to be there for her will be her family unless... they give her a hard time and a complex about it too.

That really depends on her height and body build. My friends's 13 year old daughter is 5"10 and weighs 130 pounds. She's very athletic, so she has a low body fat composition and developed muscles. Muscle weighs more than fat, so she weighs more than most girls her age.

you need to go online and look up a BMI calculator. Once you find one it will ask for the persons height and weight and sometimes sex and age and this will show you if she is over weight under weight or in the normal area. good luck!

This is kind of sad. She is 12. Just teach her to eat healthy and don't worry about how much she weighs. Actually the lowest healthy weight of someone 5'8" is about 117.....
