You could purchase a nice camera for this amount - either digital or film. This would help her to capture those memories as she is entering an exciting time in her life - final year of high school, going off to college, parties, proms, etc.

Here are my suggestions besides a gift card.
What are her hobbies and interests? If she is like my daughter and likes scrapbooking, enroll her in a scrapbooking club where they send a package once a month with supplies and new ideas (there are packages like this for many hobbies and crafts besides scrapbooking- google the hobby and you will very likely find it.
give her a subscription to a magazine that might interest her- something that pertains what she is planning to study in college or something that pertains to her hobbies and interests
books are always good for someone that enjoys reading.
A new stereo or stereo componant, DVD or CD player.
A gift card for an electronics store- this could be money that she can put towards a new computer or laptop for school
or take this opportunity to get to know her and build a new relationship- have a day out with her - lunch out and a trip to the mall for a new outfit or something.
