When you are in the hospital as long as he doesnt sign the voluntary agnowledgement of paternity, when the state pusues child support, they will do a dna test, and in Illinois is cost $25 dollars. If he sign it and wants on ethe state will provide it but when and if hes the dad they charge him like $600 bucks. When you have the baby they ahnd you a form about if you would like to pursue child support, you dont have to pursue for money you can just pursue for medical insurance if youd like. I would apply for benifits through the state if your eligible. In Illinois we ahve an insurance program that will cover kids even if you make up to 60 thousand a year. Go to your local DHS office. Good Luck!

once the baby is born contact the agency in your area that handles child support & let them know who the father is & ask them to subpeona him into court to determine how much child support he should have to pay. At that time if he denies paternity the court will order a paternity test. Since it will be court ordered the courts will pay for it. If he doesn't deny paternity then they will decide how much child support he should be required to pay based on his income. They will also probably set up a visitation schedule so he can see the baby as well. Good luck to you.

i am going through almost the same thing...and if you plan on having this baby, and getting support from this guy, you are going to have to go through a DNA test since he is being a jerk. when you file for the support and he denies the child (that is, if you list him as the father on the birth certificate), he will be the one who has to pay for the DNA test if he is the one contesting it being his child...this is a horrible situation, it has been absolute hell for me considering that me and the father of my unborn child were together forever and we conceived on purpose...if you need any help, please feel free to contact me. i know some about this subject, but not everything. seek legal advice through a lawyer (consultation) if you are still confused or want to make 100% sure...i know i am probably going to do this just to help me sleep at night...good luck with the baby and the outcome of this problem. i am praying for your child and yourself.

If you want him to pay child support after the baby's born, try legal aid, or
the welfare people. If you want him to be a real father, good luck.
