How do we hear ourselves think?

How do you hear things in your dreams? The human mind is a facinating thing, isn't it? I think you hear yourself think when there is something in the foreground of your thoughts. You give it priority and importance by thinking about what it would sound like if spoken. The affect being that you can almost hear your own voice in your head.

very interesting question. From a philosophical viewpoint Its probably impossible to answer because it relates to the question of consciousness and the brain - what is it, where is it etc etc. There are lots of fascinating theories about this kind of thing, i.e. how does conscious thought arise from grey and white matter/brain cells, is it possible to use the very thing that you are studying (i.e. your thoughts) to answer the questions you hope to answer (what is consciousness?). Psychology has some answers but human conciousness is currently an unexplained mystery as far as I am aware.

It's not that you are actually HEARING yourself think... It's just like any other body function - when you "tell" your fingers to type, they type. It's like you are asking "how do your fingers move?" All it is is a bunch of electrical signals firing off over and over in our brain.
