I'm not sure but the first Siamese twins, Chang and Eng... one died before the other and he had to carry his dead brother around... but that was before...

If the one twin is dead, I don't see how there would be a problem separating them. If the surviving twin needs an organ or something that was in the dead twin's body, that might be an issue, but typically they can save the organ or at least part of it.

If the dead cojoined twin can't be removed the surviving twin would also die. Decomposition of the dead twin would rapidly poison the live one.
