look on line for free community activities...check out parks, libraries, different grocery stores...just spend a few days walking around exploring! Watch the local newspaper for upcoming meetings or events taking place that you are interested in..maybe go to a high school sporting event or the local college football game....good luck!

This sounded like a good question for me to answer, because I felt just like that when I moved here. I really loved the place I used to live and when we moved here I was all bummed because I didn't know anyone or where anything was or anything. But I had a lot of fun decorating my home(of course that can cost money, so try and make 'faux' finishes and make some-if not all- of the things yourself. This can be fun and save money too)
What are you interested in? There has to be other people with the same interests, so go to places where people with these interests congregate, and you might even make new friends.
Go to the library. This is NOT geeky. It's social and free. Plus you can read some good books, and possibly meet some friends.
Visit a coffeehouse. This is very trendy and you can read or meet a friend, or even meet other people here, too.
If you are in NYC, why not get into art? OMG there is NOTHING more theraputic than art to me and you are around a LOT of art places there.
Take this to heart, too. IF you are in New York, there are a lot of people, like me!!! LOL!! that dream of going there. I bet it is so cool!
Take a walk in a safe area of town, in daylight of course. Just enjoy a cup of your favorite beverage and savor life. Sometimes you may set out to do something and you get led off the path onto something even more fulfilling than what you originaly set out to do. I could go on and on, the possibilities are endless!
I just basiocally told myself, I'm here, I might as well get used to it, but now I can't imagine living anywhere else. But I still want to come to NY! :)

Go find out what you're new town is like. By a newspaper, find out what kind of activities are coming up that you are interested in. Go take some pictures to share with your friends in your 'old' town. Discover where the nearest parks are to where you live and find which out which is your favorite. Find a coffee house nearby to meet new people. I don't know what kind of activities you like, so can't be exact.

Join a club ; swim at the YMCA or another pool in your area . Take a class . Join a church . Go to your local park and pick up one of their current brochures and see what they offer in the way of activities ; clubs , or classes ( exercise ; crafts ; computer & so on ). Local park districts offer a lot at low costs .Some even have excursions , shopping trips ; etc . Once you go down and pick up a brochure and start planning -the motivation will come .
Happy motivating .

Umm....the movie theaters altho the prices are getting even more outrageous crap like that! Do something you want to do and don't make yourself.

Take long walks and explore all the neighborhoods in Manhattan. Aside from the health benefits, it will help you acclimate...
