If you include who fought on the other side of the war, then the NVA and Viet Cong sustained far more casualties over any other branch or military forces fighting in the Vietnam War.

Vietnam's initial official report of casualties was 1,100,000 NVA and Viet Cong combat deaths. That number has increased every time a new report is given. Unofficial sources indicate that number could be as high as 3,000,000. It wil be imposible to know exactly how many dies, because record keeping in the NVA and especially the Viet Cong was very poor.
