Funny but I've always liked my Onion Rings on the plain side..sprinkled with Salt.

The Recipe...

3 or 4 Large Yellow Onions sliced about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick...break apart into rings.

1 Quart Cold Milk mixed with 3 Tablespoons Salt

Soak Rings in Milk/Salt for at least 15 minutes.

Drop immediately into a large plastic bag filled with All Purpose Flour and shake well to coat.

Remove from Flour, shaking off excess and allow to rest for about 10 minutes.

Fry in Crisco or other Vegetable Shortening heated to 350-375° F. until golden brown...remove and drain well.

Sprinkle with more Salt if desired and eat while still warm and crisp.

The Milk/Salt soak causes the Onions to develope a very sweet flavor and the flour coating comes out fairly thin and crisp..

Only do this when you are really in the mood for onions...the flour lost into 2 lbs or so of the fat during cooking will make it too thick and unusable after 4 or maybe 5 onions total.

Beer Batter 2 Eggs, separated 2 tb Vegetable oil 1 1/2 tb Salt 3/4 c Beer, room temperature 3/4 c Flour To prepare, place flour in a mixing bowl and add egg yolks, salt, oil, and beer. Stir batter until thoroughly mixed. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and allow it to rest in the fridge for at least 2 hours or as long as 24 - the longer the better, to a point. Just before using batter, stir it well again. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff but not dry; gently fold egg whites into batter OR an easier one: Beer Batter Onion Rings 1 1/2 c Flour 1 ts Salt 1 1/2 c Beer 3 lg Onions; in 1/2" slices Hot oil for frying Instructions: Combine flour and salt; stir in beer and beat until smooth. Chill for 3 hours. Separate onions into rings, dip in batter and fry in oil until golden brown on both sides. Sprinkle with salt. Keep warm in 200 oven.

take your rings and cut them thin, then dip them in egg, then in flour, and then into the hot oil. Add what ever spices you want into the flour, like salt, garlic or what ever.
