Depends on what type of 'mange' it is.....
If it's sarcoptic (scabies), it's easy and inexpensive to clear up with a medication from your veterinarian.
If it's demodectic....sorry, but that's just an expensive problem to clear up. There are no shortcuts. (And WHATEVER you do, please do not breed that dog and make more of them with demodex....there are enough in the world already!)
How do you know it's 'mange'??? There are MANY skin conditions in puppies that can all mimic each other. Has he been properly diagnosed?

I'm going to ask, has the puppy been diagnosed with the mange. My puppy has what they call the red mange and so far the treatment the vet has her on is working but she will have to be on that medicine the rest of her life. I bought the concentrated liquid med from the vet for 36.00 for 200 days supply. But I had to pay 3 vet bills prior so far it hasnt broke me yet. My suggestion is to please have the pup seen by the Vet and make sure you know exactly what you are treating. I can tell you its cheaper that way than trying all kinds of home remedies that MAY not work. Trust me I thought my baby had skin allergies, never thought she had the mange and tried EVERYTHING from neosporin to cortisone ointment and in the long run it was actually cheaper having her examined and skin scrape by her Vet.
PLEASE take the pup to the Vet, do not prolong it no more than you have too. In the meantime if pup is itching really bad, use neosporin on the spots and 25mg of benadryl tab. (slide in to a piece of cheese), thats what the vet told me to use with my baby's skin allergies.
Good luck

If this is Demodex, your vet should do skin scrapings to find out what it is exactly. You can use Tactic dip that is found at farm supply stores, usually about $30 for a gallon of it. You can also treat with Ivermectin as well. Look here for homeopathic treatments of mange. It also lists the different types of mange.

If this is demodex, you might be treating the pup for a long time, be patient and you will most likely be able to clear it up.

I have a staffy cross but some of my friends have pit bulls... Yes they have a bad reputation and yes they are strong and if they get in a fight they will probably come out on top. But as long as they are socialised and brought up around other dogs and people you will not have any problems. They are very loving and loyal and surprisingly gentle dogs! My dog looks pretty meaty like a pitbull and many people stay clear of her but I have taken her to dog beaches and dog parks everyday ever since I got her (off lead). And I have taken her to places with masses of people and she is such a gentle dog- has never hurt anyone or anything and she is 9 now! We have lived with other dogs no problem and now we live with a 9month old baby and she is extremely gentle with him. I think giving your dog lots of love, lots of exersise and socialising it are the most important things (if your pit bull doesnt get enough exersise it might make him a little to edgy and unpredictable)... Also make sure to socialise your dog with other dogs that are not know to him from a young age- he needs to get used to seeing new dogs and being ok with that. Be prepared to constantly come across people that instantly hate your dog because of its breed (dont worry these people are generally very ignorant). Have fun!

You need to go to the Vet to determine the type of mange that your dog has and look in your area for low cost clinics that might help cut cost, also don't be afraid to ask your vet for low cost alternatives to treatment.

I'm not sure about your dog, but my pit loses his hair at his back end and I use Victory 777 we give him a bath every week or so. After the very first bath within two days his hair was coming back. **** luck...

my dog used to get this every summer. i tried lots of things. A friend told me that she had used a product called "PINETARSOL" you get it from chemists. I tried this and my dog stopped all the scratching and her coat grew back. So it's worth a try.
You can also try PINE OIL. this is fantastic for itch and fleas.
I'm trying NEEM OIL on my horse at the moment, she gets summer itch and rubs her mane and tail out. I have had good results with this on her. It's just trying different things to give them relief I'm sure one of these will work.

there is a dip you can buy (cant remember the name either) but you can find it at a vets office.
mainly good nutrition will keep it away (it doesnt always come back) and dont bathe the dog in hot car oil. (alot of people do this but its not a good fix)
