The dialysis center is a Davita center. I have a friend on dialysis and she is always telling me about her experiences and it really sounds like they are providing substandard care. Some of the things they have done, they could have killed my friend! My friend has lodged complaints with the Dr (non-Davita) and with the center itself, but nothing has really improved. Is there a way that I can help? Any suggestions?

My friend lives in a rural area so no other options for dialysis.

Since Davita is corporate now, the Dr's don't really have authority over Davita, but they can raise a fuss in the management of their patient's care.

I am a former dialysis patient so I know what my friend is going through.

I am an attorney, but I don't practice health care law, so I am not sure of the options.

Is there any way that she can seek treatment somewhere else first????? Is her bad treatment because of the doctor or the facility itself? Do they employ improperly trained individuals? It is possible that the doctor does not have authority over the individual staff members and that the complaint should go to the corporation or business that offers this service. Because she must go to dialysis sooo much and that this is such a vital service to her, I hope that she can find another provider as soon as possible. If she is not able to do this she might best be helped by filing a complaint with the State Health Department. That way the complaint will be confidential and she wont get rough treatment as a result.

Call the State. Threaten to call the Nursing Board on the nurses. Threaten to tell the local news and paper.

County or State health department. They regulate these places.

Unless you have a plan B for her dialysis I would tread carefully.

How about OSHA, a lawyer and the medical board.
