An Australian passport holder probably has priviledges to visit western countries without getting visas along the way. Just like an American can go to Australia without getting an Australian visa, and vice versa. Rich western countries can generally travel at will, because the countries they are visiting know that they will go back to their country, and not try to stay. That is why third world country people can't get passports to travel to the U.S., because they won't go back home once they get here.
