Well I own a pom who is 3 years old, and chases cats outside, however I brought 2 cats into the house a few months ago and he loves them constantly grooming them, He is snippy with people, but I didn't get him as a puppy however I do believe training would fix the problem, he is very loving toward people he knows, and my kids and he loves to sit on my lap and be pet.. He also loves to be brushed and loves the water, especially the lake.. I would recommend to anyone wanting a puppy that a pom is definitely one that I have enjoyed since I got him.,..

I had a Pomeranian and he was great with people, cats and dogs. He was a fantastic lap dog and wasn't snippy at all.

Alot of small dogs get snippy because everyone thinks there so cute and tiny and usually pick them up incorrectly which can hurt them.

My pom was socialized well with other pets, young children and a variety of pockett pets. The pom is a big dog in a little dogs body. They think they are the same size as a German Shepherd and in there mind they could take them on, so that is one thing you have to watch.

They are vocal, they like to talk with you, and yap, they will definitly let you know when some one is at the door.

They are really great dogs, one of my favorite of the little breeds. I have noticed it takes them a bit longer to potty train, but they are very smart and pick up tricks fast.

Some health conserns you want to watch for is dislocated patella, stiffle slip, heart conditions, skin conditions and eye problems. Also watch for retained baby teeth in poms too. (common in a lot of small breed dogs). Its important to get a puppy from a reputable breeder that has references and offers a health garuentee (genetics as well).

Poms are great dogs, just make sure you socialize them early and they are very intellegent and eager to please so they make fantastic obience "best in class" puppies too.

They are not the best dog with kids and strangers. Unless well socialized from the time they are young.
They are sort og high maintainence dogs. Lots of grooming and most hate to be brushed. Makes it hard to gromm them and many are spoiled rotten so they are not very well behaved. The are tiny and cute so people put up with bad behavior because how could you disipline such a small cute dog. Well when they get older and snotty they are not cute anymore.
They are beautiful dogs that do best as a only dog in an adult home. Maybe ok with cats if raised with them.

It depends greatly on how a dog is raised. My grandpa has 2 poms, they are great with kids, but they were raised with us grand kids there all the time. He has 4 cats, and they all do fine.

Poms can be a bit snippy and yippy, because they are very exuberant dogs by nature...

From a good breeder & properly socialized and trained, they can be good with kids & cats. To find a reputable breeder, go to www.akc.org & contact members of your closest breed club. Buy from ones that test & certify their breeding dogs free from genetic defects known to the breed - this is the best way in ensure a healthy, well adjusted pet from the start. Good luck!

According to the book that came with my pom, they are very snippy, they get jealous easily, not good with kids, need much pampering, not good with anything new you introduce (new boyfriend, new kid, new puppy), have visions of grandioseness (so they think highly of themselves)...like having a dog version of a Beverly Hills chick.

My neighbor has a Pom and I hate that little bast*rd. He waits on the window sill until I get home and then starts barking. Its my neighbors fault though. They allow it. Every time I can hear them say "alright , that's enough, knock it off" but that mut don't listen. If that was my dog I would give him a swift kick in the *** - relp!!!
Then he would be a good doggy!!!

Sorry...

They are very jealous and need lots of attention. They are good lap dogs though!!!

my aunt had some and they were really good with kids and animals. i guess it all depends on how old you get them and what they went through. if you get them as pups you can teach them to be nice. they are really really sweet dogs.
