You probably don't mean out of a pocket.
Freezing works with bubble gum but not so well with chewing gum. Peanut butter, peanut oil and coconut oil (oils that solidify at room temperature) all work pretty well and should be the first thing you try with chewing gum, and the only thing you should try if the gum is day-glo green. WD40 will get it out but can discolor your pants. It can break down dyes or leave a yellowish stain in lighter colors.

Sounds a bit mad, but put your trousers in the freezer to freeze the gum. it should come off easily.

Place the trousers in your freezer until the gum has become frozen, and then you can get it off them.

Peanut butter!!!
If that leaves a lil' oil residue...Sprinkle with talcum/baby powder, cover with a washcloth, then run a low temp iron over oil spot. Continue powder and, iron until spot is gone...Then wash as usual!!!
Also works awesome for chewing gum in hair!!!

Take an ice cube, hold it over the chewing gum for a while until it goes hard and simply peel it off.
Strange but true. I heard it one of those cleaning progs on telly. Really works although not tried it myself. :)
Good luck.

Putting the item in the freezer until the gum goes hard and then peeling it off is the safest way. That way you don't damage your clothes and you don't get the sticky stuff left.

Did you sit in gum? If the freezer doesn't work, try peanut butter. The peanut butter should get the gum off and will wash off in the laundry.
