Well, if he REALLY is a good friend that you've known forever, then you can just be upfront and honest about how you feel.

This is really difficult situation to be in, "the friend zone."
But it sounds like your really into him, so I'm going to tell you to make a move, if he hasn't by now then he won't so go for it! But you should be aware of all that is at stake. Are you willing to risk your friendship on the chance of a relationship? I don't mean to turn you away from the idea, it's just something to think about.

You must be careful here. Preserving the friendship is of utmost importance. You cannot make him like you. It will have to happen through your attributes.
Take your time, relax and continue to be a very good friend. Subtle flirtations would generate more interest, but do not over do it. Since he already knows you like him you have to guard against him taking advantage of that fact.
Don't let yourself become frustrated. Continue to enjoy the friendship and let your magic slowly work its way into his heart.
Don't compete with his girlfriend. always have class.

My first instinct would be to tell you to save yourself all the drama and angst and move on to greener pastures. But, if he's giving signals that he might be interested, go for it. Smile at him and behave as you normally do and let him approach you.

The way to get someone to like you is to let them know that you like them. Dont be afraid to express your emotions to others.
