YES, THEY COULD. ONE DAY I WAS GETTING READY TO DO LAUNDRY AND I PUT A CUP OF BLEACH ON THE COFFEE TABLE FOR JUST A SECOND AND MY TWO YEAR OLD SON GRABBED IT AND STARTED TO DRINK IT. WELL OF COURSE WHEN HE TASTED IT, HE DROPPED IT, SO I CALL POISON CONTROL AND HE DIDN'T DRINK ENOUGH OF IT TO HARM HIM. ALWAYS KEEP ANY HOUSE CLEANING PRODUCTS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

I think you need to clarify your question. Are you asking if small children mistake household chemicals for favorite drink/ food? The answer to that is yes, all the time, that is why they have poison control centers. Small children have a hard time reading labels, doncha know.
If you are asking if children use their favorite food/drinks for household uses? The answer is again yes, as any parent who has had a child 'fingerpaint' with the peas/carrots/stew on the walls, furniture, etc. can tell you.

Three children and several adults have been taken to the ER after mistaking Fabuloso and Mistolin cleaners for a drink. Both come in a clear bottle like the type used for sports drinks. The cleaners are brightly colored, with pictures of fruit on the label, and have no child safety caps.

My little cousin had been rushed to the E.R as a result of something similar happening just like what I posted above.
